Reporting approach

More useful than a collection of thermal photographs.

A useful investigation report explains the question being examined, the measurements and observations taken, the conditions in which they were collected and the limits of the conclusions.

Illustrative structure

Vertex Building Diagnostics Report

This is a proposed report framework, not an example of a completed customer investigation and not a claim of accreditation.

01

Client, property and agreed scope

Property address, client, survey objective, date and areas examined. Clearly state which areas and issues were outside the instruction.

02

Construction and background

Record relevant information about the building and reported symptoms. Distinguish customer-provided information from independently observed facts.

03

Survey method and conditions

Record inspection method, equipment identification and available calibration information, indoor/outdoor temperatures, humidity and relevant weather or heating conditions.

04

Visual and thermal observations

Pair appropriate visible-light photographs with thermal images, scales, image locations and any relevant measurements. Show both expected patterns and unusual observations where useful.

05

Interpretation with uncertainty

Explain what was observed, possible explanations and the limits of any conclusions. A colour contrast alone is not evidence that a defect is present.

06

Proportionate next steps

Separate recommendations for monitoring, further tests, specialist referral or potential remedial consideration. Avoid promising that a particular repair will solve an unconfirmed problem.
